Shift 2 - Unleashed Review
Shift 2 Unleashed is a multiplayer Simulation Racer for play on PlayStation 3. Follow-up game to 2009's Need For Speed: Shift, Shift 2 Unleashed leaves the traditional arcade racing associations of the Need For Speed franchise far behind as it immerses the player in an unprecedented level of realistic racing scenarios and functionality. Features include: improved first person perspective via the all-new helmet cam; access to real-world drivers, tracks, and cars; a deep Career Mode; 1-12 online multiplayer support; extensive car customization; and Autolog social networking functionality.
The critically acclaimed Shift franchise returns to the track to deliver the most physical racing experience to date with Shift 2 Unleashed. Feel what the Driver's Battle is actually like in an unparalleled racing experience that captures the physicality and brutality of being behind the wheel going 200mph. Frighteningly authentic physics and degradation of tracks and cars, thrilling night racing, and an eye-watering sense of speed combined with the helmet camera puts you right in the heart in the action. Feel every scrape, bump, and burn out in an all-out fight to the finish line. Shift 2 Unleashed sets the bar for realistic racing and gives all the excitement and exhilaration of race day in a groundbreaking authentic experience.
Like the original game in the young Shift video game franchise, Shift 2 Unleashed is a Need For Speed game, but one that falls decidedly in the Simulation game genre as opposed to an arcade racer. The game features first-person oriented racing in which players experience true in-cockpit vibrations with every scrape, bump and scratch that their cars encounter. In-game players pursue the FIA GT1 World Championship and GT3 European Championship via a point-based experience system as they take on the roles of real-world drivers and a variety of race types across equally real-world tracks in a wealth of cars.
Shift 2 Unleashed also contains powerful social networking functionality, known as Autolog. Autolog is a revolutionary system that connects friends and changes the gameplay experience by allowing you to share virtually every aspect of your racing career both while playing and when not. Compare driver profiles and career status, share and comment on pictures and videos, send challenges, and pull news feeds directly from NFS.com and Speehunters.com. Autolog recommendations amp up the social competition of real-world racing by delivering challenges based on friend activity, creating a dynamic, competitive, fun new way to play both online and offline.

Blur Review
Blur is the ultimate powered-up racing experience, dropping you into electrified action with a mass of cars targeting the finish line and battling each other as they trade paint in both single player and multiplayer action. Travel the globe from L.A. and San Francisco to Spain, the UK and more to take on the best the streets have to offer. Utilize an arsenal of power-ups like nitro speed boosts, shock attacks, defensive shields, and landmines to beat your rivals across the finish line. You choose how and when to use your arsenal of powerups for ultimate impact in a race where the outcome is never certain. In Blur the storyline plays out in the single player campaign. Here players assume the role of an up-and-coming racer who is looking to make a name for himself in the underground racing scene, but the competition is fierce. As you take on the series of races, you'll meet a bunch of recurring characters. Some of these characters will be rivals, others perhaps will act as mentors, and some may be something else entirely. The only thing that is certain in the world of Blur is that in a race there are winners and losers, and racers will do anything to reach the finish line first. Gameplay Although filled with the beautifully elaborate racing environments, realistic damage effects and a long list of available cars usually only found in simulation racers, Blur is an arcade racer through and through. Its single player campaign revolves around the game's Career Mode, while in multiplayer there are additional options, including customizable cooperative and competitive races. In both of these though the second-to-second, fast-paced action is rooted in the wealth of powerups strewn throughout the track. These are addictive in their use and dramatic and devastating when used against opposing racers. With each successive race that players engage in they will use their collection of powerups to engage in vehicular combat of all sorts as they make their way to the finish. The game employs a fictional in-game social networking system allowing communication between drivers, and through this a way for players to establish alliances, find mentors and get familiar with the tactics of opponents. Monetary rewards are accumulated by drivers not only for success in competition, but by generous fans earned during races and for predetermined side challenges within races, proposed by those same fans. With the cash accumulated through all these, players can buy new cars and upgrade their ability to use powerups and keep their career going. Powerups An impressive array of powerups are part and parcel to the vehicular combat that takes place Blur. These are spread across each of the game's tracks and for the most part can be used at any time. Drivers start out with the ability to sock away up to two of these, but with success players can upgrade to add additional slots and even increase the potency of the powerups that they have. Powerups in the game include:
Blur is designed from the ground up to provide an enthralling multiplayer experience both online and offline. Online players with enjoy support for up to 20 player races, while local offline play features 2-4 player, four-way split screen support through a single console and up to 20 player support via system link console configurations. Within races players will have the choice to play either competitively and cooperative, in a variety of play modes that offer a mix of customization and automation. Just a few of the race parameters that can be customized are locale, car class and number of racers. Players can also choose to let the game handle the specifics of race particulars with World Tour mode, which will string together race after race randomly, allowing friends to simply concentrate on the fun. Tracks and Cars The gameworld of Blur contains an impressive array of tracks and cars. Players can expect to pile up the powerups and put the pedal to the metal across tracks set throughout 14 real cities and other locations throughout the world, each of these featuring recognizable streets and landmarks. Just a few of these include, London, San Francisco, Barcelona and Los Angeles. The game is also filled with over 50 fully licensed cars, unlockable and purchasable throughout the game. Create the ultimate ride
The classic drift racing game returns to the PlayStation brand in style and with loads of new customization features. In exterior creation mode, players can select, view, and apply body kits for almost any area of their car. Kits include lowers, lifts, airflow and even major body modification. Once the kits are applied, players can head to the paint and body shop to have their specific paint tone applied as the backdrop for their killer custom decals. If you're ride still isn't hot enough, consider adding some wheels from the wheel shop for that extra bit of style.
If exteriors aren't your thing, then consider fine tuning the handing. Customizable Handling mode allows you to tweak cornering performance by adjusting tire pressure and suspension to your chosen settings. Feel the turns with sport suspension or soften the landings with something more touring oriented. Either way, you can pick just the right feel for your favorite track, rival racer, or experience level.
Nitrous boosts have always been a central part to any racers' strategy, but before Ridge Racer 7 there wasn't any control over the type or amount of gas. Now, you have total control over such minutiae as the number of tanks, charge rate, even total boost limit. If you prefer to have more control over nitrous while racing, consider the new "flex nitrous," which can be turned off or on at the driver's discretion.
Improved cars, improved performance
A wide range of sports cars are available in Ridge Racer, with over 40 to choose from. Including the customization options listed above, each car has over 200,000 variations in terms of control and appearance. Debuting in this title are two impressive sportsters: the Centellee and the Magnifico. The Centellee from Terrazi Motors blasts off the line with a 4000cc V8 engine and has an unbelievable top speed of just over 210 mph. Not to skimp on looks, the body of the Centellee is hand-crafted and recreated perfectly on-screen.
Another other welcome addition to the Ridge Racer family is the Magnifico, known the world round for its unmatched luxurious interior. One of the new generation of light bodied sports cars, the Magnifico can ramp up to 178 mph via a 2000cc 4-cyvlinder inline engine.
On the track, the cars still accelerate and drift in that quintessential Ridge Racer arcade style. Large, sliding turns and short bursts of air are the name of the game as you speed past your opponents in a blur of color. The track count for this installment has been pushed to an astonishing 44- more tracks than any any previous Ridge Racer title. The variety of locales is truly astounding, as you'll be racing by rushing waterfalls one minute and near the top of a snow-capped peak the next. The track layouts have something for every racing fan and style. Ridge Racer 7 grabs the PlayStation 3's processing power and doesn't let go. Running in 1080p high definition video at 60 frames per second, the courses look lusher, the tracks feel faster, and the cars look gorgeous.
Ridge Racer 7 continues its illustrious history, bringing you a driving experience unlike any other. Test yourself with 40 different machines and over 20 courses. With reversed courses, the total grows to 40 -- the most ever in the series. NASCAR The Game 2011 is a Simulation Racing game that brings the true excitement of world famous NASCAR racing to home gaming consoles. A departure from earlier NASCAR games, this all-new racing series focuses much more closely on realistic aspects of NASCAR racing. These include: a deep career mode, advanced AI allowing for realistic driver appearances, extensive tuning abilities for vehicles, pit stop and spotter functionality allowing for crucial race strategy, severe in-game damage and improved online play.
NASCAR The Game 2011 completely redefines what fans can expect from a NASCAR racing game. In this all-new rendition players have the choice of creating their own driver from the ground up, or to race as one of the many real-world drivers included in the game as they roll through the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship. Each of the pro drivers available resembles his or her real world counterpart, making real-world rivalries played out in the game all that much more real. The game also contains 22 real world tracks, full pit stop strategy, ferocious damage and wrecks as well as a range of other on-track actions. In the end, regardless of the driver or the race NASCAR The Game 2011 has something for both longtime and new fans of the NASCAR game series.
Players progress through the grandeur of the NASCAR racing championships – the adrenaline-pumping NASCAR Sprint Cup series. Career mode provides the opportunity to compete at all the real-world NASCAR tracks alongside 42 other NASCAR legends - battling for points, victories, cups, and other race rewards. Drivers perfect their pit-stops, and master their racing reflexes in order to make 'The Chase', the final 10 races towards stardom and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship.
Using the Eutechnyx Damage and Wreck System cars are catapulted into the air, barrel-rolling over one another. Metal twists and tears like cloth, whilst sparks and fragments scatter across the track. Debris that litters the track is actual parts off the car. The damage system allows all areas of the car to realistically display damage build up, in direct relation to impacts and action throughout the race. Damaged panels react to inertia and vibrate realistically in relation to the car's velocity.
Pit stops and NASCAR go hand in hand. Throughout career mode, single player events and online multiplayer, pit stop strategy and efficiency is a fun and immersive part of the race. The pit stop sequences in the game mimic that of the real thing. Players witness their crew working efficiently to change all four tires, refuel and dial out handling deficiencies in the car, all in under 14 seconds. All pit stop animations are fully motion captured from a real NASCAR Sprint Cup team.
Spotter feedback informs the player of the drivers in the race that will work with him, to bump draft, block, or slingshot, all in real-time. Invaluable advice from the spotter also alerts the player to any hazards up ahead, opponents closing the gap or attempting to pass, as well as how to react. The player's Spotter advises with VO on the areas of the car concerning the team, as well as make real-time, calculated suggestions on the pit strategy. VO advice is based upon the car's current fuel levels, tire wear, and the player's position in the race, in association with the number of laps left. Even the player's position in the overall standings is taken into account - giving dynamic, informative and invaluable advice to the player.
NASCAR The Game 2011 supports online racing, and offers players additional modes of gameplay and the chance to increase their online skill rating. Players can join or create private multiplayer lobbies with ease, utilizing a choice of predefined race styles and additional race settings to create the race they want. Pit stops, tire wear, fuel consumption and caution flags can all feature in an online race if the player wishes. Players have the freedom to race with any of their cars online, any custom paint schemes and any tuning setups. Online play and split-screen also allows players to race as any of their favorite NASCAR drivers.
